Spring Jam 2023! info

Join us Thursday, 6/15 at 5:00-7:00 at the Queen Anne Farmer’s Market for an awesome cello concert!  We’ll be performing classical favorites from Beethoven and Pachelbel along with selections from Moana, Harry Potter and more!  Look for us at the performer’s area on the lawn, and don’t forget to sample the many wonderful eats from the market!  See you there!!

Cellopalooza and CelloFest 2023! Info

Cellopalooza!

  • When: 5/21/23 at 2:00-4:00 (1:15 arrival)
  • Where: Green Lake United Methodist Church
  • Attire: Concert clothes.
  • Parking: Church parking or street parking.
  • What to bring:
    1. Cello
    2. Stool (shorter sizes)
    3. Music stand (low kind)
    4. Sheet Music (in a three-ring binder and in concert order)
  • Invite your family and friends!

Cello Fest!

  • When: Directly following Cellopalooza (approximately 4:30)
  • Where: Green Lake Play Field
  • What to bring:
    • Please bring a soccer ball and frisbees if you have any! (I don’t). Also, blankets, outdoor clothes, sunscreen and water.
  • Pizza:
    • Please let me know ASAP if you are attending and pay me for how many in your group are eating pizza. The cost is $10 per person and you can pay using Zelle, Venmo, cash or check. There will be a gluten-free option.
  • Pizza volunteer:
    • I need a pizza-job volunteer. This involves the following:
      • Placing the order on the day of the concert (I will reimburse). I will let you know the order-size once I know how many are eating pizza.
      • Picking up the pizzas and bringing them to Green Lake. Please also get plates and napkins from the pizza place.
  • Desserts:
    • One parent is bringing gluten-free cupcakes to share. Please bring a dish or dessert to share if you’d like!

Spring Cello Recital! Info

  • Where: Olympic View Community Church
  • When: Saturday, March 25, 2023; 4:00-6:00
  • Arrival time: 3:30
  • What to bring: cello, rockstop, rosin, sheet music (if needed).
  • Parking: there is a parking lot on 5th Avenue.
  • Attire:
    • Girls: long dress, skirt or slacks and blouse.
    • Boys: chinos, dress pants or dark pants and button down dress shirt or polo.
    • No flip-flops or light-colored tennis shoes.
  • ATTENDANCE POLICY:
    • Cello Jello students must stay for the first half (until intermission).
    • All other students must attend the ENTIRE recital. The recital will last 2 hours.
    • The only exception is if the student has a Youth Symphony or other sanctioned cello performance (please ask me first) that will result in a late arrival or a need to leave early. Otherwise, no exceptions.

Christmas Concert 2022! Info

Join us at the Kraken Community Iceplex on December 23rd at 2:00-6:00 for a spectacular day of Christmas music and merriment! See you there!

  • When: Friday, December 23, 2022
    • Cello Jellos and Cello Philharmonic; 2:00-2:45 (1:30 arrival)
    • Cello Philharmonic; 2:45-3:45
    • Cello X, 4:00-6:00 (3:30 arrival – click here for details)
  • Where: Kraken Community Iceplex (main lobby)
  • Parking:
    • Parking instructions are in this link.
    • The best lost to park in is #9 west of the Kraken. Use the code “Kraken” in the “Apply Discount” field of the app for free parking. Enter using the doors on the west side of the building and walk downstairs to the lobby.
  • What to bring:
    1. Cello
    2. Rockstop
    3. Music stand (readers only)
    4. Stool or chair

Fall Recital 2022- Info

In-Person Recital

  • Where: Greenlake United Methodist Church
  • When: Sunday, November 20, 2022; 2:00-4:00
  • Arrival time: 1:30
  • What to bring: cello, rockstop, sheet music (if needed).
  • Attire: performers should wear nice clothes. Girls in long dress, blouse & skirt or slacks, boys in dress or dark pants and buttoned dress shirt or polo. No flip-flops or light-colored tennis shoes.
  • Parking: in front of the church or on the street.
  • Attendance policy:
    • Cello Jello students must stay until intermission.
    • All other students must remain for the ENTIRE recital.
    • The only exception is if the student has a Youth Symphony or other sanctioned cello performance (please ask me first) that will result in a late arrival or a need to leave early. Otherwise, no exceptions.

Virtual Recital

***Note: the Virtual Recital is only for those students who are not participating in the in-person recital.***

  • When: Sunday, November 20, 2022; 10:00AM-11:00AM on Zoom. Please log in at 9:50AM.

  • Attire: dress nicely
  • Instrument set-up: please tune ahead of time, rosin bow, and clean cello.

Video set-up:

  • Choose a well-lit room with good acoustics and a good WiFi connection.
  • Make the background as plain and clutter-free as possible.
  • Place the music stand (if using) to the left side so you’re not blocked from view.
  • Position the computer so you and your cello are fully in the frame (from the knees up is okay).
  • Use landscape mode.
  • Face forward – do not face to the side.
  • See picture below as an example.
  • When finished performing, you may move elsewhere in the house to watch the rest of the recital.
  • When watching others, select “Speaker View” (not “Grid View”) to best see them.

Sound set-up:

IMPORTANT! Please make these adjustments to improve the sound quality. I believe these can only be made on a computer (not an iPad).

  • Click the up arrow next to the microphone.
  • Select Audio Settings.
  • Automatically adjust microphone volume: OFF
  • Suppress background noise: LOW
  • Show in-meeting option to enable “Original Sound”: ON
  • High fidelity music mode: ON
  • Click Advanced
  • Signal processing by Windows audio device drivers: OFF (Raw)
  • Echo cancellation: AUTO
  • Return to the main screen
  • Original Sound (upper left corner): ON

Recital etiquette:

  • Please set up before it’s your turn to play.
  • Listen respectfully and attentively to the other performers.
  • Encourage friends and relatives to attend!
