Category: About Peter Williams
I grew up in Seattle and began studying cello as a Suzuki student at age five. As a youth, I soloed with the Northwest Chamber Orchestra and performed in master classes for Lynn Harrell and Ralph Kirshbaum. I studied Cello Performance at Indiana University and the University of Washington where I received my BA in Music.
I was principal cellist of the Northwest Symphony Orchestra, and am a former member of the Tacoma Symphony Orchestra and Bellevue Philharmonic. I have recorded movie soundtracks with Seattle Music and have toured with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Other noteworthy artists I have performed with include Kenny Rogers, Natalie Cole, Jackie Evancho, Alice in Chains, Chicago and Heart.
My passion is education and music instruction. I am a certified Suzuki Cello Instructor and have trained with Grace Field, Barbara Wampner and Carey Cheney. I was the Director of Cello at the Suzuki Institute of Seattle for 12 years before founding my private studio in 2012. I have taught at the Seattle Youth Symphony, Tacoma Youth Symphony, Vivace Chamber Players, Marrowstone in the City, and the Foothills Cello Celebration.
In addition to a being a cello teacher, I am an employee in the Seattle Public Schools in the field of Special Education. I freely accept children with special needs or developmental delays in my cello studio.
