Peter Williams, Suzuki Cello Instructor

Suzuki Method Cello Lessons with Peter Williams

“When Love is deep, much can be accomplished.” -Dr. Shinichi Suzuki

Welcome to my studio! For almost 20 years, I have been a Suzuki Cello Instructor following the teaching principals and pedagogical philosophies of Dr. Shinichi Suzuki. As a certified Suzuki instructor, I believe in Dr. Suzuki's philosophy of "Every Child Can!" With encouragement, patience, daily practice, commitment from the student, parent and teacher, and--most importantly--love, all children can learn and become enriched by music. What sets my program apart from other Suzuki programs is my energy and passion for music and music instruction, and my ability to connect with children. I have an adaptable and innovative teaching style that individualizes instruction based on the learning needs of the child, and a belief that music must always remain fresh and exciting and should never become boring or rote. These qualities are the reasons why my program has the reputation as one of the top Suzuki Cello programs in the Northwest.

Dr. Suzuki believed in teaching the whole child.  I look forward to discussing how my experience and our mutual appreciation for music can benefit your child and family!

Biography (more than a cello instructor!)

I am a certified Suzuki Cello Instructor and have trained with instructors such as Grace Field, Barbara Wampner and Carey Cheney.  My students have been selected as Concerto Finalists at the Seattle Young Artist Music Festival, have written compositions that have been performed by the Seattle Symphony and have gone on to study music at DePaul University and the Royal Academy of Music in Scotland (to name a few).  They have perforned at Benaroya Hall, the Triple Door, the Moore Theatre with music legend Shelia E, and the National Anthem at a Seattle Mariners' game at Safeco Field.

Before I opened my private studio opened in 2012, I was the Director of Cello at the Suzuki Institute of Seattle for 12 years.  I have taught at the Seattle Youth Symphony, Tacoma Youth Symphony, Vivace Chamber Players and Marrowstone in the City.  I have been an orchestral coach at Roosevelt, Garfield and Blanchet High Schools, and adjudicated at the Bellevue Solo and Ensemble competition.

In addition to a cello teacher, I am a teacher in the Seattle Public Schools in the field of Special Education.  I openly welcome students with special needs in my studio.
